Diagnose WordPress health problems, follow guided fixes, run selected low-risk repairs, and verify the result.

== Description ==

TopNotch Site Doctor turns WordPress health findings into practical, risk-aware next steps.

The Free edition is a complete diagnostic tool. It does not require an account, license key, payment, usage quota, or trial period.

= What Free includes =

* A dedicated Tools → TopNotch Site Doctor dashboard plus a TopNotch Fix Assistant tab inside Tools → Site Health.
* Critical / Review / Healthy prioritization, with actionable findings shown before verified healthy checks.
* Problem → Fix → Verify → Technical guidance for actionable findings.
* WordPress Site Health integration for compatible core and third-party health tests.
* Environment-aware indexing checks for production, staging, development, and local environments.
* Permalink, HTTPS, REST API, loopback, WP-Cron configuration, public debug display, memory, and XML sitemap checks.
* 404 and redirect-behavior diagnostics for blanket redirects, soft-404 HTTP 200 responses, and server errors.
* Homepage noindex, robots.txt, mixed-content, canonical, uploads-directory, expired-transient, and browser security-header checks.
* WordPress scheduled-event, autoloaded-options, page-cache, and persistent-object-cache diagnostics using core Site Health logic where available.
* Optional Action Scheduler queue diagnostics when Action Scheduler is installed, including recent failed actions and pending actions past its configured threshold.
* Safe, capability- and nonce-protected low-risk actions when an eligible repair exists.
* Cleanup of already-expired WordPress transients using WordPress core cleanup.
* Soft rewrite-rule refreshes where that regenerative action is actually relevant. Site Doctor does not change the permalink structure or write .htaccess for this action.
* Scan history, repair/action history, and rollback-snapshot support for compatible approved option-level repairs.
* Non-destructive defaults: no silent edits to wp-config.php, .htaccess, site URLs, indexing, redirects, server/CDN configuration, plugins, themes, or content.

= Optional Pro add-on =

Site Doctor Free keeps the complete diagnosis and manual guided fix. A separate optional Pro add-on may extend the same diagnostic engine with deeper root-cause analysis, eligible repair execution, automatic verification, recurrence monitoring, and connected search-data intelligence.

The Free plugin contains no paid repair code that is unlocked by a license. Premium functionality is designed as a separate add-on.

Pro does not mean “change everything automatically.” High-impact server, CDN, filesystem, plugin/theme, and content changes remain reviewable and require explicit approval.

== Installation ==

1. In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
2. Upload the TopNotch Site Doctor ZIP file.
3. Activate TopNotch Site Doctor Free.
4. Open Tools → TopNotch Site Doctor.
5. You can also open Tools → Site Health → TopNotch Fix Assistant.

If an earlier Site Doctor version is already installed, WordPress can replace the existing plugin during upload while keeping the same plugin slug.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does the Free version only show problems? =

No. Free includes the complete diagnosis, manual guided fixes, re-testing, history, and a small allowlist of low-risk automatic repairs when Site Doctor can perform them safely.

= What can Free repair automatically? =

Free currently limits automatic actions to verified low-risk operations such as soft WordPress rewrite-rule refreshes when appropriate, cleanup of already-expired transient cache records, and explicit restoration of compatible rollback snapshots.

Site Doctor intentionally does not present a one-click repair when the action cannot reliably solve the root cause.

= Does Site Doctor automatically edit wp-config.php or .htaccess? =

No. High-impact configuration remains guidance-only unless a future compatible repair layer can make a controlled, explicitly approved, and reversible change. The Free rewrite refresh uses WordPress internal rewrite regeneration and does not write .htaccess.

= Does Site Doctor delete plugins, themes, posts, or pages? =

No automatic plugin, theme, post, or page deletion is included in Free.

= Does Site Doctor send diagnostic data to Top Notch Agency? =

No. Site Doctor Free does not send scan results, site content, telemetry, or usage analytics to Top Notch Agency or a third-party analytics service.

Some diagnostics make HTTP requests to the site’s own public URLs, such as the homepage, REST API, robots.txt, and sitemap, so Site Doctor can verify the public response that visitors and crawlers receive.

= Does Free connect to Google Search Console? =

No. Site Doctor Free does not access Google accounts or Search Console data. Any future connected Search Intelligence feature belongs to the separate Pro add-on and would require explicit authorization and separate service/privacy documentation.

= What does Site Doctor store in WordPress? =

Site Doctor stores a small local history of scan summaries and approved repair actions in non-autoloaded WordPress options. Compatible repairs may also create local rollback snapshots. Uninstalling the plugin removes Site Doctor’s own stored scan history, action history, and snapshots.

= Is a healthy result a guarantee that the site has no problems? =

No. A healthy result means the specific check passed with the evidence available at scan time. Site Doctor is a diagnostic aid, not a guarantee of security, ranking, availability, or compatibility.

== Privacy ==

TopNotch Site Doctor Free does not include telemetry, advertising trackers, remote fonts, third-party JavaScript, or automatic calls to Top Notch Agency services.

Diagnostic history and rollback snapshots are stored locally in the WordPress database. Site Doctor may request the site’s own public URLs through the WordPress HTTP API to validate public behavior such as HTTP status, REST responses, sitemaps, robots directives, canonicals, cache headers, and security headers.

No Search Console or other third-party account connection is included in Free.

== External services ==

TopNotch Site Doctor Free does not require or contact an external Top Notch Agency service to perform its diagnostics or included repairs.

A future optional Pro add-on may support separately authorized external services. Those integrations are not part of this Free plugin and must document their own data use, terms, and privacy behavior.

== Developer integration ==

Companion plugins can add normalized findings with the `tnsd_scan_results` filter and provide remediation content with `tnsd_issue_guide`.

Before an approved compatible repair modifies WordPress options, it can call `TNSD_History::create_option_snapshot( array( 'option_name' ), 'Repair label' )`. Available snapshots can then be explicitly restored by an administrator.

The optional Pro architecture can extend resolution profiles with `tnsd_pro_resolution_profile` and provide a product/help URL with `tnsd_pro_upgrade_url` without replacing the Free diagnostic engine.

== Changelog ==

= 1.2.4 =
* Corrected memory diagnostics to follow WordPress/PHP runtime behavior: WP_MEMORY_LIMIT is a request target and does not lower a higher PHP memory_limit.
* Memory severity now uses the actual current PHP runtime limit instead of min(WP_MEMORY_LIMIT, PHP memory_limit), preventing false critical results on normal 40M WordPress defaults.
* Added current request usage/peak evidence to memory Technical details.
* Scan history now says Recommended instead of Review.
* Added a real healthy-summary separator to improve copied/accessibility text.

= 1.2.3 =

* Improves memory evidence with effective ceiling and limiting-layer details.
* Normalizes WordPress Site Health fallback-theme warnings into concise, dependency-safe guidance.
* Preserves the native WordPress evidence under Technical details.

* Keeps the Free scanner, safe repairs, history, Site Health bridge, and public behavior unchanged.

= 1.2.0 =
* Prepared the Free edition as a WordPress.org-oriented submission candidate.

* Shortened plugin metadata and tightened directory-facing documentation, FAQ, safety language, and installation guidance.
* Preserved all v1.1.1 diagnostics, low-risk Free repairs, scan/action history, rollback support, and the strict non-destructive safety boundary.
